Realizes Significant New Efficiencies and Cost Savings

Fort Lauderdale, FL — July 30, 2014 – Midstate Radiology Associates has selected IDS Voice2Dox speech recognition and AbbaDox clinical reporting solution to meet the practice’s high-volume multi-site reporting needs. The busy 11-radiologist group sought a sophisticated system that supported full-featured reporting with immediate voice-to-text recognition at multiple locations with the same detail and accuracy as its transcriptionist-based workflow.

Also important was seamless integration with Midstate’s Sectra RIS and PACS, and support of the radiology group’s complex workflow, including reading worklists that are dynamically updated across locations. Midstate Radiology maintains two imaging centers and reads multi-modality studies onsite at MidState Medical Center (part of the Hartford HealthCare System in CT) as well as at four additional medical clinics.

According to Gary Dee, MD, Medical Director for Midstate who spearheaded the project, “After conducting an in-depth search of competing systems, we selected Voice2Dox because it provided a full range of advanced features and turnkey implementation and management in the cloud. IDS also offered a robust range of complementary technologies that made the company an excellent strategic business partner for future expansion.”

“Voice2Dox far exceeded our expectations,” comments Richard Maskowsky, RT (R) (CT) (CIIP), Radiology IS Manager for the practice. “Initially, we hoped to convert from in-house transcription to 50% automated, digital reporting within one year. However, after just 30 days, we were 70% digital and at 85% within four months.”

Maskowsky notes that this achievement drove tremendous cost-savings with a reduction in transcription staff from 11 to 2-1/2 FTE. At the same time, Voice2Dox significantly accelerated report turnaround time, while boosting radiologist efficiency. In addition to generating reports from any worksite, physicians can report from home and review documents on any mobile device. “Providing this flexibility challenged many vendors, but IDS made everything run like clockwork,” says Maskowsky.

“Fast, accurate reporting is key to expanding relationships with referring physicians,” notes IDS founder and CEO Yaniv Dagan. “In today’s highly competitive healthcare environment, IDS’ integrated speech recognition and reporting solution gives radiologists a significant marketing edge. Moreover, our cloud-based implementation requires no in-house maintenance, while timely technology updates ensure that users remain ahead of the technology curve.”

Midstate radiologists can launch Voice2Dox with a single keystroke from within their PACS. They may choose among immediate speech recognition, template-based reporting and transmission to a medical transcriptionist on-the-fly based on their needs. The system has been customized to automatically route certain completed complex report types to the practice’s transcriptionists, while others are automatically sent to the cloud-based rendering and distribution engine. Recently, Midstate also implemented the IDS Referring Physician Portal to enable doctors to view patient diagnostic images and download accompanying reports over the Internet across multiple platforms and devices. Additionally, set to go live shortly is IDS automated Critical Findings Reporting.

“Technology, particularly cloud technology, is crucial to the success of any radiology practice in today’s challenging healthcare environment. Based on IDS’ superior voice recognition solution, we absolutely see IDS as a strategic partner to help lead us into the future,” says Maskowsky.
